Flutopia 5k! Chicago Edition

As part of the 2022 10th Anniversary Celebration, in addition to the State College race a unique Flutopia 5k! will be held during the 50th National Flute Association convention on the Chicago Riverwalk.

The Flutopia Initiative is celebrating life, good health, the joy of music, and the spirit of community supporting those in need or who are underserved!

 

Our Flutopia 5k! in Chicago will benefit a National Flute Association Diversity an Inclusion scholarship fund, and "Resilience" a Chicago nonprofit working to empower victims of sexual assault.

 

Playing it Forward along the beautiful Chicago Riverwalk and Lake Front Path while you run, walk or stroll:

 

Start: (near Columbus Dr. Bridge)

24 members of the Crane School of Music Flute Ensemble, lead by Brian Dunbar, will replace a starter's gun to start your race with an energizing rendition of "Flight of the Bumblebee"!!

 

Lake Shore Dr. Bridge:

All the way from Chile, Wilson Padilla's Orquesta de Flautas ILLAWARA

will share their musical specialties to keep you charged!

 

Lake Front Path near Monroe St:

Clarion Winds and their leader Julie Maisel, will "blow in" from Dublin, Ireland to motivate all participants with their serenades!

 

Lake Front Path near Balbo Dr.:

Naomi Seidman's Penn State Flute Collective  will provide musical joy at the race's turnaround point and water station! 

 

Finish (near Columbus Dr. bridge):

The Celtic Crue from the University of South Alabama and led by Andra Bohnet will assure a lively finish for you with their traditional Irish fluting!

 

Plus there will be flute-themed prizes and light refreshments at the end.
